What this practices
Explicitly authored contact-process rehearsal on a first-party graybox: seven named copper contact/pin pairs, one iron, solder wire, an iron rest, a wrong-purpose tool, eye protection, manual contact-plane alignment, and an explicit hand-contact stimulus. Heat and solder progress belong to individual contacts. No physical quality, precision proficiency, competence, metallurgy, thermal calibration, or transfer claim.

What this is not
- Not an assessment. The definition declares it ineligible for assessment; nothing you do here is graded.
- Not a certification or a qualification. Its rubric is "no-assessment-v1" — there is no rubric to certify against.
- Not a released build. The definition is an unreleased draft bound to the exact source and build it ships with.
Hazards and refusals the definition names
The simulation includes deliberately unsafe states so you can recognise and recover from them. These are the rules as the definition states them.
- Hot working end
- conservative session latch: the working end is treated as possibly hot from the first power-on until a full reset; powering off, returning to the rest, or taking the iron again does not make it cold
- Hand contact
- explicit stimulus places the learner hand on the work at the selected contact; a possibly-hot working end within handContactRadiusCm of the hand is an unsafe state, including during an otherwise valid application and with the station off
- Applying heat or solder with hand contact
- the working end still moves, the hazard fires, and no heat or solder progress is earned
- Wrong tool
- tweezers held while heating or soldering is rejected as wrong-tool before any movement
- Recovery
- withdraw the hand (guided recovery) then return the iron to its rest (restored); any process action attempted while unsafe is refused and presents the explanation
- Reset
- available from any state; resetting out of an unsafe, explanation, or guided-recovery state is recorded as reset_to_baseline and is not a credited recovery
Tested limitations
- Access is by invitation only; there is no anonymous try-out in this alpha
- Adults only.
- One practice session at a time.
- Session time limit: up to 30 minutes.
- A browser is required. Chromium-based browsers or Firefox; tested only in Chromium so far.
- Streamed video at 1280×720, the station build's profile as observed in the v26 cloud run.
- No headset support in this alpha.
- Not tested on school networks.
- No assessment or certificate.
Limits the definition states
- uniform authored joints are process rehearsal markers, not metallurgical or visual quality measurements
- the hot latch is an authored conservative rule, not a thermal model or calibration
- keyboard alignment on a graybox does not measure physical precision proficiency
- the hand stimulus is an explicit keyboard action placed at authored board positions, not tracked hand motion
- no physical-task competence or transfer claim
- contact-hazard conflicts require geometry review, never automatic hazard suppression
